I can’t believe our wedding is just about 1 year away. Planning has been a little bit stressful only because I feel like there are endless options with EVERYTHING and I don’t want to make the “wrong” decision. At the end of the day, I know we will have a beautiful ceremony and reception and each day that passes I get even more excited.
I’ve had several people ask for “wedding updates” so I figured I would share the details we’ve narrowed down so far.
Kyle and I are getting married next February, 2018. We decided on a winter wedding for a few reasons.
1. The price – we knew we could stretch our budget further if we hosted during an “off month”, and we definitely found that to be true!
2. Time off – while I don’t work during the summers, that is when Kyle’s company is the busiest. We both wanted at least 1-2 weeks off during our wedding to also make time for the honeymoon, so February was the perfect month to spend away from work for both of us.
3. The season – who doesn’t think a winter wedding is beautiful! I love looking at Pinterest photos of couple’s in the snow and guests by a hot cocoa bar. I like that it’s a little bit “out of the norm”. Since we live in New England, why not embrace the snow when we can!
We knew as soon as we saw The Villa at Ridder Country Club online, that it was probably “the one”. It was just the second venue we went and visited and Kyle and I both loved it (which is rare, because we usually have opposite tastes in everything). We ended up booking the venue that same day and chose the Grand Ballroom which was the larger of the 2 room options. We both loved the fireplace, modern fixtures, and large bar area. We even got to taste some of their food and it was incredible. We’ll head back in a few months to do a tasting for our wedding menu.
The Dress / Suit
I already said “yes” to the dress at Modern Bride! I went a few weeks ago with my mom, sister, step-mom, and future mother-in-law and it only take me 20 minutes (not an exaggeration) to decide on the most beautiful dress. When I put it on, everyone knew it was just “me”. Kyle already got his suit for the wedding too! We got it back in November on Black Friday because Mens Wearhouse was having an incredible sale. Kyle chose a navy blue Tommy Hilfiger 3 piece suit and I absolutely love it.
The Bridesmaids Dresses
While I don’t want to share a picture, I have already picked out the most stunning bridesmaids dresses, with the help of my mom and maid of honor (my sister). They are a light blush pink color and look gorgeous contrasted to my white dress and Kyle’s navy suite. I love them!
The Color Palette
After searching Pinterest and deciding on a winter wedding, I knew what I wanted my “color scheme” to be – navy, gold, and blush (see my inspiration here). I love the combo of all three and especially like “sparkly gold” as an extra touch in the decor. I haven’t decided on center pieces just yet, but know I want these 3 colors incorporated in somehow.
The Wedding Bands
We already bought Kyle’s wedding band and I love it. It’s a thick band in tungsten metal, all black. It’s definitely “him”. I’ve decided on my wedding band style but haven’t purchased it just yet. Eventually, I would like 2 (1 on each side) and to sauder them all together.
I am thrilled to soon be designing our Save the Dates and Wedding Invites with Minted. I’ve adored their work for many years and love all the options they offer. I think I’ll share a post on what we decide so stay tuned in a few months.
We haven’t decided on our honeymoon yet – only that we want to go somewhere warm! Places we’ve looked at online include Bora Bora, Fiji, Hawaii, Aruba, and St. Lucia. We’re going to wait a few months before booking and making a final decision.
Next up on the to-do list
I would love recommendations for Massachusetts based photographers, videographers and DJ’s. I have a few in mind, but would love some other suggestions. Comment below or send me an email.
Stay tuned for another post in a few months with invitations, decor ideas, and other exciting updates!
